5th China Trade Week (CTW) Kenya 2019 preview press conference

A lineup of high ranking VIP speakers praised upcoming 5th edition of CTW Kenya a milestone for the Belt and Road Initiative
NAIROBI, May 14th 2019 – MIE Groups Chairman David Wang and MIE Groups International Events Director Zahoor Ahmed welcomed here on Tuesday May 14 at the prestigious Sarova Stanley Hotel, on a sunny Tuesday, in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, a lineup of seven dignitaries and leaders of public and private entities and more than 50 national and international media representatives in order to announce the 5th edition of China Trade Week (CTW) Kenya 2019.
The 5th CTW Kenya will be held in two phases from 5-7 June and from 10-12 June in the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC).
In his opening remarks, Mr. Wang looked back at the first CTW Kenya which was held in 2015 and thank MIE Group’s clients, partners, supporters and Kenyan public and private entities along with MIE’s Kenyan long-time partner Global Exhibitions for their continuous contributions to the biggest business-to-business event in the East African country. “It is of no coincidence that CTW Kenya was launched shorty after China launched the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the masterplan to economically integrate China with Central Asia, Middle East, Africa and Europe, back in 2013,” said Wang.
Mr. Wang also thanked Global Exhibitions CEO Edwin Masivo for his corporate social responsibility through his Joanne Chazima Sickle Cell Foundation.
According to Zahoor Ahmed, International Events Director, MIE Groups, CTW Kenya will boast more than 500 exhibitors while the show expects 30,000+ visitors. “Beside our popular B2B matchmaking area, CTW Kenya 2019 will host as a ‘first’ conference sessions on the 5th of June and the 10th of June,” Ahmed pointed out in his speech. He added: “Top experts will deliver presentations about trade, Kenyan-Chinese economic relations and financing solutions for Kenyan exporters. CTW is about two-way trade whereas both sides benefit.” He highlighted the benefits of the Mombasa-Nairobi railways which was built by Chinese construction firms.
Industry sectors represented at CTW Kenya will be Building Materials, Construction, Water & Environment Treatment, Furniture & Interior, Textiles, Print, Packaging, Plastics, Consumer Goods, Automobile, Electrical & ICT and Agriculture.
Ms. Joyce Kibet, Business Development Advisor said in her address to the media that relations between Kenya and China can only grow stronger as the East African country has been playing a strong role in filling the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road as part of the New Silk Road with life.
This led Rachel Muthoga, Deputy CEO Kenya Private Sector Alliance to give specific examples of how Kenyan private businesses have benefitted from BRI. She noted that Kenya recently received nod from China to export avocados to the biggest Asian economy.
Nemaisa Kiereini, CEO of KNCCI (Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry pledged the organisation’s ongoing support for CTW Kenya and added that the business community was looking forward to lifting Chinese-Kenyan relations to the next level.
CTW Kenya’s partner Stanbic Bank, the biggest wealth manager in Africa, was represented by Ezekiel Yuaya, Ezekiel Yuaya. He gave examples of how the lender successfully financed projects in relation to infrastructure and small and medium enterprises banking on BRI.
Ms. Hellen Rintari, National Coordinator of ITC/PIGA Kenya (International Trade Center/Partnership for Investment and Growth) stressed that ICT/PIGA has entered into partnerships for Chinese-Kenyan joint ventures “and we continue to expand these partnerships.”
COLOHO Mall’s Chairman Jerry Zhang thanked MIE Groups for the new partnership both sides signed recently and invited the media and visitors to the official opening of COLOHO Mall, Nairobi, which will be held parallel to CTW Kenya’s phase 1 on the 7th of June.
The Chief Gust Speaker Betty Maina, Principal Secretary, Industrialization was represented by Mr. Victor Maina who praised CTW Kenya as a catalysts for mutual growth and added value for Kenya’s industrialization drive.
Scores of one-to-one interviews were held with MIE Groups representatives and VIP speakers. All tier-1 media were present along with Chinese state news agency Xinhua and Chinese news channel CGTN, to mention a few. The media briefing was followed by High Tea and intensive networking.
